G2 and North faced off in the grand final of the fifth season of ESL Pro League. The French side took it, 3-1. The results were 16-13 on Cache, 16-5 on Cobblestone, 14-16 on Overpass, and 16-3 on Inferno.
The match started out on Cache, with North splitting onto A and planting the bomb. The round ended with G2 winning the 2vs2 afterplant and taking the first round. After an eco, Kristian "k0nfig" Wienecke clutched out a 1vs3 to win the first gun round, clearing the B site.
North quickly took the lead after that, winning five rounds in a row. G2 were able to win a few rounds back, but North quickly regained control and ran away with the half, 10-5. G2 were quick to plant on B in the second pistol round, and were able to stave off North’s retake, to keep the match alive.
G2 won the two anti-ecos, but another big triple by k0nfig in the B site gave the Danes the first gun round and kept them in a solid 11-8 lead. G2, lead by a particularly inspired Kenny "kennyS" Schrub, and North found themselves at a 12-12 stalemate. Finally, though, G2 were able to take advantage of North’s poor economy and close the first map 16-13.
The second map, Cobblestone, started with G2 winning the pistol round after defending the B site, not allowing North to plant the bomb. A forcebuy ace by Emil "Magisk" Reif with three tec9 and two UMP kills gave North the second round, but a double by Richard "shox" Papillon with an M4 and triple by Dan "apEX" Madesclaire with a CZ got G2 back on track to a 4-1 lead. The French side went on to take a crushing lead in the first half, closing it 12-3 without giving the Danes a Chance.
A big triple by k0nfig defending on A gave North some hope early in the second half, but were still a long way from coming back. The French side then won the first gun round, followed it up, and didn’t look back, taking the 2-0 in the best of three, 16-5.
The first pistolA on Overpass started with G2 getting an early three man lead, but a teamkill by Nathan "NBK-" Schmitt on shox and a double by k0nfig gave north the round. After winning the anti-ecos, it was finally G2 who took the first gun round, thanks to a big triple by Alexandre "bodyy" Pianaro and a 1vs1 win by NBK-, but North were able to shut the French side down and completely took over the half, closing it 13-2.
After winning the pistol, it looked like North were just going to close the match out, but a big triple by NBK- in the forcebuy kept his team in the match. G2 tried to mount a comeback, and with 15-14 on the scoreboard and the wind in their sails, North rushed long and killed both kennyS and apEX, forcing the CT side to spread. Finally, the Danes were able to close down the comeback and take the map 16-14.
Doubles by shox and apEX gave G2 the first pistol round, on CT side, on Inferno, and followed it up against a forcebuy from the Danes. Having won the second gun round and an anti-eco, G2 established an early 5-0 lead. After trading a couple rounds with North, G2 were able to gain the momentum back and sail through the half, 13-2.
North won the second pistol round, but G2 were able to take over B site on the forcebuy and crushed North's second half start. After winning against the forcebuy, and tallying the fifteenth round on the board, G2 won the match, 16-3, to crown themselves champions of the ESL Pro League Season 5.
